Library

An essential instrument for strengthening and expanding the KSRM’s activities is its library, which contributes significantly to the teaching and research programmes at the Post-Graduate level and Doctoral level in the field of Rural Management. The Library is primarily intended for the use of the students, academic, administrative and research staff of KSRM. However, outsiders may avail the library facilities with prior approval from the concerned authorities.

It acquires and organizes information resources in both printed as well as electronic resources which include books, referred journals, e-databases, e-books, e-journals, annual reports, case studies, working papers, conference proceedings, training manuals, etc. The library has now a collection of over 5,000 volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects consisting of textbooks, reference books, pamphlet /reprint collections, back volumes of journals and reports, MTS reports, Village Segment Study (VSS) Reports etc apart from 300 current periodicals both Indian as well as International.

The library collection can be categorized under the following groups :

i) Reference Publications

The collection under this category consists of Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Bibliographies, Dictionaries,(both Language and Subject), Research sources, Glossaries, Directories etc.

ii) Government Publications

Census reports, Statistical and other reports brought out by the Central and State government departments, publications of RBI, NABARAD etc.

iii) Technical Publications

Those publications which are not categorized as text books in the MRM, but could be used as additional reference in the course, can be categorized as technical books. Such materials are not used by the MRM students, but would be useful for other activities of the institute.

iv) Periodicals

The library subscribes to a large number of journals about 300 both national and international on the core areas of interest as well as peripheral areas. In addition to the current issues of periodicals, the library also have the facilities of back issues from last three years. E-Resources – such as a) CDs/DVDS – Census (2001), Indiastat.com; b) Online Journal Databases –Business Source Complete-EBSCO, EMRALD Management XTRA, ABI/Form Complete (Proquest), Prowess (Firm Level Database), Economic Intelligence Services ( Micro Economic Database), Industry Analysis Service, Indian Harvest (Sectoral Database) of CMIE (Corporate Database), and c) Audio-Visual resources .

v) Annual Reports

The library through contacts with various organizations, has collected their annual reports which are both in co-operative as well as corporate sector.

vi) Pamphlets/Reprint Collections

In addition to the regularly published material, the library also has a collection of pamphlets and reprints, such as research monographs, case studies, working papers, staff papers of both national and international Organizations, irregular publications and reprints of articles etc.

vii) General Collections

This collection comprises books relating to a variety of areas, such as Arts & Crafts, Biographies, Language, Literature, Natural Science, Philosophy, History & Geography etc.

Computers and related technologies are now being widely used in our library for automating several library operations, for instance, Selection, Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, as also Computer-based Information Service, Co-operation, Networking and Integrated Library Information Systems (ILIS) with a view to provide effective and efficient services to end-users. The library is fully automated since its inception from the year 2007, and runs on the latest modern version of LibSysX Release 4 – a highly integrated library management software package. A library database is not a function, but the automation rests on a database comprising a number of files. A creation of library database in KSRM, to meet the demand of our end-users, is a pre-requisite for initiating on-line operations through our library computer system for the larger interest of our user-communities, and such bibliographical databases are- i)Books, ii) Pamphlet/Reprint Collections, iii) Serial Publications, iv) Article Indexing, v) Annual Reports, vi) Fieldwork Reports (VSS), vii) MTS Project Reports, viii) Teaching Academic Materials, ix) E-Resources, and x) Video Collections, etc.

A comprehensive database, containing index and abstracts for more than 9800 international journal abstracts, with full texts of 3000 business related periodicals and back volumes, dating back to year 1886.It is most comprehensive archives available for business journals , where in the reviewed articles are available in PDF prior to 1985 and with full texts in post 1985. The full text journals cover all business areas including Marketing, MIS, POM, Accounting, Finance and Economics. It also contains financial data, books, monographs, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles and many more.

A collection of 42,000 articles from 100 management journals, complete with full text archives , dating back to 1994 and abstracts back to 1989. Emerald journals portfolio represents the world’s largest collection of peer-reviewed management journals.
